"The Dreamers" -directed by Bernardo Bertolucci

There should be a reason for my fascination for “The Dreamers”. It might be the living against society’s stubborn rules and fake expectations. The moral behind the immoral. The choice of staying true to yourself, to your passions and desires, which I consider to be the most important decision we should take. There is no blame for the truthfulness in one’s heart.
I am not discussing the religious or spiritual perspective, this is not my objective.
It is the purity and innocence, the seductive spirit and decadent moments that make this movie memorable.  I am captivated by the beauty of an unique universe, where humans are allowed to be humans.

Because homo sum et nihil humani a me alienum puto...

Rabindranath Tagore. Gora.

This is my first novel by Rabindranath Tagore. So far I've read only his poems. "Gora" represents a veil under-covering a hidden world, a different India compared to our expectations. One that struggles beneath the casta rules, that tries to cope with heart and religion in front of society's challenges.
I feel humble in front of Tagore's profound interest and care for his nation. It is seldom when man of art (poet, novelist, painter) goes out of his own private creative universe and mitigates for his country's rights, analyzing the causes and suggesting solutions.

Alecio de Andrade. Louvre and its visitors.

My choice for today is a mix of two sides of art that I am highly attracted to. Photography and painting. The way Brazilian photographer Alecio de Andrade captures the essence of the moment becomes powerful given the chosen location: a museum.
People- their movements and reactions, sitting, walking, starring- and the angles of the photos arouse an emotion in me when looking at the walls. Walls that also breath their own stories- that passed and yet are there for us to  cut slices of them, take them home inside our mind, heart and memories.
We actually exist as a reaction in others. Art is a way of finding a corridor into somebody's private universe.

Kasia Derwinska. Reflections of soul.

La esperanza se muere la Ășltima.
At a first sight, I had the impression that Kasia Derwinska's photos are tragic. Pessimistic. Beautiful. Still sad.
It's been already more than one year since I discovered her in the digital artist universe. And now, looking at her creations, I can sense a deeper meaning, an inner reflection of one's self in an artificial solitude. The truth is the hardest challenges we have are inside us, the place where we are -and feel- naked and genuine.
The most dramatic reality that we face it is the one when we keep our eyes shut and allow the journey to the profound ego start.

Tanya Coolinich - Beauty versus Art

I like the representation of woman as a sublime creation of nature. Though the Romanticism and Renaissance period are long gone, sometimes we need to approach the idea of Human as an ideal. The perfection beyond all our imperfections. It is a miracle to look back at our development, at our evolution, at all things the mankind succeeded at during the centuries.
And the most amazing thing is that we can operate this change starting with ourselves. We can be whatever we want to be -with a bit of determination and with the understanding that a long journey is composed by many little and precise steps.
There is no important goal to be achieved without significant effort. There is no musician playing guitar in the crazy way of Rodrigo & Gabriela, no ballerina performing main role in "Nutcraker" without thousands of hours spent studying, trying, failing, trying again, trying again. It is indeed just a matter of investment: your soul, your time, your dreams.
This post is dedicated to the miraculous energy that lies in us, the one that drives us to the top and makes us art. We are art.
So start fighting for your dreams, today is just the perfect day, don't procrastinate and -the most important- believe in your uniqueness.
You can be whatever you want to be, you have it in you.

Jakatta -"It will be"

Since I've been introduced to Jakatta's music few years ago, I systematically pick up this wonderful piece each time there is a need for self-introspection, for taking time with yourself. I feel it has an ambivalent effect, peaceful with the predominant rhythm, yet the sharp notes and the voice in the background make you wonder if "it will be"...

Modigliani and Jeane Hebuterne. Tribute to love and beauty

A fine piece of art increases its value and connection with the viewer -the viewer being me in this case, more specifically - as I manage to get behind the image itself and immerse into the life of the painter: his background, his dreams, his inspirations, challenges, failures, successes, all contribute to a better perception of the art item.
Modigliani and Jeane Hebuterne create such a vibrant world in this static painting universe. Their love, literally lasting until the very end of life, the vicious painter and his young muse -as she was 19 years old, the Montmartre unique charm, these all define the emotions I feel when looking at Modigliani's paintings.
